Thing 23

Drumroll please......

I didn't think I would get to Thing 23 when I was at Thing 16. I did and I am happy I went through the struggles of completing this course. It was worth it.

I loved that I could do this course at home without showering or getting dressed for the day. Despite be frustrated at several Things along the way, I do believe several of these can be beneficial to me as an educator. I'm sure I will be collaborating with my colleagues regarding several of these Things. Staying fresh as an educator through my new discoveries will make my job a bit easier and less time consuming looking up relevant references.

I would like to attempt to keep a blog of my Health Fitness activities, so working on the blog was by far the best thing I did. I also liked working with iMovie and can see my students using this for Health Fitness projects, now that our libraries have wonderful Macs. I will also use Rollyo, google documents and Imcooked for starters.

The Common Craft videos were very entertaining and fun to learn with. I'm a very visual learner.

I was surprised I could do some of the stuff and wonder what else is "out" there that would be beneficial to me.

In one word my description of this class would be- Eye opening!

Thing 22

I went to Ning for Teachers. I found several blogs which had Health Fitness related posts. One post was discontinues and the other post was written by a substitute teacher subbing in a Physical Education class. This post had 10 tips when subbing in PE. I will add these 10 tips to my sub folder and possibly use it during my first week of school.

WOW!!! Only one more thing to go. I think I'll save it for another day when my house isn't full of workers.

Thing 21

I used Imovie because I am working at home on my mac. My bathroom is getting demolished so I didn't do a voice over. My plumber wanted to say something but I don't know how to use the "bleep" button.
I hope you enjoy this video.

Thing 20

I went to Youtube and searched learning and teaching nutrition. Fun healthy kids games video is what came up from that search that looked interesting. It talked about several interactive games for kids that included one about the food pyramid. The website is I will try to embed this into my blog.

I also searched Teachertube with the same search and wasn't impressed. It might be different given a different topic. I am really amazed by the things people can learn from youtube. I have a friend who is a beginning golfer and has watched a number of different youtube videos about different parts of the game. She has learned a lot.

Imcooked.com was the first one I went to and LOVED it. It is a community for video recipe sharing. I watched easy guacomole and fafetaboutitpizza. I recommend watching the later one not for the recipe but for the person in the video. I’m sure if I could get through the 10 minute video without laughing, the recipe would rock.

I was hoping I could use this for nutritional information but I didn’t find that. However, the kids could film each other with their own recipes by using our libraries flip camera.

I have the urbanspoon app on my iphone and love it but don't find any relevance to use that in a classroom setting.

After I'm done with thing 20, I'm going to look up a flounder recipe for my dinner tonight.

Thing 18

I like google docs because I can make something at school and then upload it. Over the weekend I can go to google documents at home, edit and then either print it at home or at school. No flashdive or hauling my computer around...it is just out there.

It doesn't have all the bells and whistles the word processing programs have. I've also heard it isn't totally private.
