Sweet Thing 16

I'm still a bit perplexed about how to incorporate wikis into my daily job of a teacher

I am a Health Fitness teacher and our goal is to keep students moving and growing towards healthy fitness goals. I need to continue to learn how to use technology in ways that help me achieve that goal such as networking with other health fitness teachers.

Our State PE organization, TAHPERD, should have a wiki regarding their events or curriculum or just things "PE".

Thing one five

I enjoyed watching this video. Very insightful. These are my learners in the video and I have to find ways to incorporate their world into my environment. Just like Library 2.0, I have to be "user friendly" and "inviting".

Libraries have to keep up on a daily basis with the rapid deluge of information as it relates to their patrons and how best to relay the information to them.

Thing 14

Discovery activities:
1. Take a look at Technorati and try doing a keyword search for “School Library Learning 2.0” in Blog posts, in tags and in the Blog Directory. Are the results different?

My search on Technorati was the same; zero found for School Library Learning 2.0 under blog posts, tags and in the blog directory. Perhaps I didn’t do this one correctly.

2. Explore popular blog, searches and tags. Is anything interesting or surprising in your results?

There are lots of entertainment and gossip blogs.

3. Create a blog post for Thing #14 and express your thoughts regarding how Technorati and its features could assist you. Since you have now looked at several tools that use tagging (Technorati, de.licio.us, & Flickr), add your thoughts about the value of tagging information.

Technorati can assist me a great deal personally but I'm not sure how much it could assist me in my Health Fitness classroom. Within my Health Fitness association this would be beneficial to share ideas to keep kids moving, since the goal in Health Fitness is have moderate to vigorous activity at least 50-100% of each class. Tags such as cardio, kids health and stretching would be beneficial tags to share.

THING 13

At first I wasn't sure how to use this site in my classroom, but after watching a few tutorials I realized it can be quite beneficial to me. I liked delicious.com and diigo sites. I will use the delicious web site to better organize my Health Fitness websites. When I organize my bookmarks and tag them, I will see what others out there have tagged like mine. Hopefully, I can find useful sites to incorporate in my professional world. This type of site can help teachers find topics quickly as well as share. Sharing is good.

Thing Twelve

Well, Thing 12 has been interesting and despite me stating that I wasn't a reader in Thing 11. I did do a bit of Blog Reading and...enjoyed it.

I am looking forward to checking out some blogs and commenting on them using some of the 10 techniques such as don't criticize and interacting with other comments. I will continue to make comments on this post as time goes by.

I blog searched Houston animals and found two good blogs. The Houston Zoo blog is pretty cool.

I'll be back.

Thing 11

I am not a reader. There I said it. I like to read and do read but not for pleasure. During my down time I like to nap, garden or watch TV, that is when I have down time. I can see how the Library Thing can be a cool tool for those in the "reading" world.
I did find a group that shared my interest but I didn't check it out aggressively. I am now onto thing 12.

THING 10

I used comic strip generator, eventually. www.comicstripgenerator.com
I tried Image Chef intitally but was unable to master it.
I can use this tool in my classroom a variety of ways but see it working best with either a lesson on SEL or during a Health unit.

Thing 9

I tried four search tools in Thing 9. Google Blog, Atomic Learning, TEchnorati and Edublogs. I searched three different topics related to my field, Physical Education. Two of the search tools took me on a wild goose chase with subscribing. It was frustrating not knowing if it was me or if it was the site. So, I stopped on those two. Google Blog was by far the easiest and gave me “bang for my buck”. Still, not much on Physical Education.

Edublogs was the most confusing and I never was able to do an appropriate search because of my subscribing issues.

The first blog I found and the only one by a PE teacher, was the most interesting and potentially useful. Makes me think I should start my own. Hmmmm can I make money off of this?

I searched TAHPERD, my state PE association, and the only blogs I found there were for vendors.

This concludes my adventures for Thing 9. I’m exhausted.

THING 8

  • RSS and readers are very easy to understand and manipulate.
  • I'm going to use this technology in my personal life to keep me updated with my sports teams. I'm using this technology to access my professional websites all in one click. Instead of going to the toolbar for my professional links, everything is right there on my Google reader and best of all, up to date. I wasn't a big follower of blogs but this makes it fun as well as informative.
  • Our colleagues can help us to keep updated on the new uses of RSS and how it can better serve us in the classroom.
Since I've taken this class, I have to say, Google has an assortment of technology to take advantage of.

Thing 7

One "thing" I did was create a Google calendar which I will use to chart and coordinate grade level teachers to supervise our morning walking club. As part of our CSHAC goals for 2010 - 2011, we are getting our school community involved with walking before school. Each grade level will supervise a month of Wednesdays and walking with our school community.

The other "thing" I did was create a Google Alert notifying me of any video regarding the Chicago Cubs. Lots of video to watch!

Again, lots of information to read more indepth. I know several of my friends that use the google docs so that is my next adventure.
